“TenderEasy has formed the backbone of our efforts to standardize and harmonize procurement for the last three years”
Peter Stockhammer, Senior Manager, Logistics Service Provider Strategy & Management, at PUMA

“Xeneta and TenderEasy allowed us to know on specific trade lanes where we really needed to push our providers to go one step further and […] also that on certain trade lanes we were already competitive.”

Background

PUMA is one of the world’s leading Sports Brands, designing, developing, selling and marketing footwear, apparel and accessories. For 70 years, PUMA has established a history of making fast product designs for the best athletes on the planet. The company distributes its products in more than 120 countries, employs more than 13,000 people worldwide, and is headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

TenderEasy and PUMA have been working together for several years. The freight procurement solution has played a key role in taking PUMA’s procurement to the next level. In 2019, Xeneta, the Leading Ocean & Air Freight Rate Benchmarking and Market Analytics Platform, integrated with TenderEasy and helped PUMA soar even further and analyse market prices on ocean and air freight rates across trade lanes in real-time.

Leveraging technology to deliver real value

As a company, PUMA strives to be “Forever Faster” and this ethos extends to the Global Logistics Projects department. PUMA wanted to create a cutting-edge and dynamic approach to procurement, one which addresses critical business questions with speed and accuracy, based on data-driven decision making. This empowers the team to act as a trusted advisor to the business as a whole.

Before TenderEasy, PUMA had to rely on Excel spreadsheets which were sent around the various business departments and collected manually. This frustrating process, which took time and was error prone, has now been streamlined. This enables the Global Logistics Projects department to concentrate on what they do best. “Ultimately this frees up our time and lets us focus on what’s really important,” explains Stockhammer. “Negotiations, analytics and adding real value to the bottom line.”

TenderEasy as an enabler

This is where TenderEasy steps in. As a sustainable and flexible, cloud-based solution, the software was identified as the leading candidate to help standardize and harmonize the team’s procurement processes. Prior to engaging with TenderEasy, PUMA simply did not have access to reliable market data to benchmark their freight rates.

“We want to ensure that we don’t overpay the market and that we are in line with our budgets and our target setting.” In this context, TenderEasy integrates with Xeneta, the world’s largest real-time database for benchmarking ocean freight rates. PUMA can now get a full overview of the freight market prior to entering a tender – valuable information that ensures full price transparency.

A strategic approach to procurement

Benefitting from the joint capabilities of TenderEasy and Xeneta means PUMA is able to continuously optimize its processes. “We can benchmark ourselves and our performance relative to the market and this lets us drive continuous improvement initiatives, as well as further strategically develop our partnerships.” The solutions also let PUMA monitor full spend throughout the year and contrast it to the relative market.

“By combining TenderEasy and Xeneta we get the best of both worlds. Benchmarking and an easy e-procurement solution. We are not talking about the future. We are already doing this today. This allows PUMA to be Forever Faster."
